Kao De Tsan’s interest in electronic design prompted him to establish Uchi Electronic Co. Ltd., Taiwan in 1981. He was joined by his brother, Kao Te Pei in 1982. Together with other partners, the two Kao brothers started off the company by designing a control module for electronic bathroom scales for their first customer, Krups. Subsequently, the company moves on to develop control modules for electronic slicers and mixers. Eventually, the company designed and developed control modules for coffee makers. At that time, the company was also developing Switching Power Supply, a voltage converter for bar coding system for Symbol Technologies Inc.
With their vision to “Look South”, the Kao brothers decided to set up a manufacturing base in Penang in 1989. The Group commenced operations in December 1989 at its factory in 187, Jalan Sungai Pinang, Georgetown. Subsequently the Group shifted to Prai Industrial Estate, Penang in 1996 when business expanded. At that time, the Group had already established a good customer base with long-standing relationships.
Uchi Electronic Co., Ltd., Taiwan was established.
Uchi Electronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. and Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. were incorporated in Malaysia as a private limited company under the Companies Act, 1965. Uchi Electronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. and Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. commenced operation at its first factory in Gerogetown, Penang, measuring a built-up area of 13,094 square feet.
R&D Division was established with their primary goal to achieve technological breakthrough and exceed customers expectation by research, innovation and developing high grade, market orientated with optimal cost efficient products.
Uchi Electronic Co., Ltd. Taiwan ceased operation.
Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. became an ISO 9001 registered company which includes conformance to specified requirements for design activity.
Uchi Technologies Sdn. Bhd. was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1965, with an issued and paid-up share capital of 2 Ordinary Shares of RM1.00 each.
Uchi Technologies Sdn. Bhd. was converted to a public limited company and assuming its present name, Uchi Technologies Berhad (Uchitec).
Uchitec completed:
Built-up area of Uchi Group’s manufacturing site based in Prai Industrial Estate, Prai were expanded to 126,008 square feet.
Uchitec completed the allotment of 17,847,600 bonus shares of RM1.00 each at par on the basis of 2:5.
Uchitec completed the subdivision of 72,562,560 ordinary share of RM1.00 each into 362,812,800 new ordinary shares of RM0.20 each on the basis of 5:1.
Uchi Group successfully transformed to lead free production and is ahead in compliance with European Union requirements towards environmental friendly products.
