History

Kao De Tsan’s interest in electronic design prompted him to establish Uchi Electronic Co. Ltd., Taiwan in 1981. He was joined by his brother, Kao Te Pei in 1982. Together with other partners, the two Kao brothers started off the company by designing a control module for electronic bathroom scales for their first customer, Krups. Subsequently, the company moves on to develop control modules for electronic slicers and mixers. Eventually, the company designed and developed control modules for coffee makers. At that time, the company was also developing Switching Power Supply, a voltage converter for bar coding system for Symbol Technologies Inc.

 

With their vision to “Look South”, the Kao brothers decided to set up a manufacturing base in Penang in 1989. The Group commenced operations in December 1989 at its factory in 187, Jalan Sungai Pinang, Georgetown. Subsequently the Group shifted to Prai Industrial Estate, Penang in 1996 when business expanded. At that time, the Group had already established a good customer base with long-standing relationships.

Uchi Electronic Co., Ltd., Taiwan was established.

1989

Uchi Electronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. and Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. were incorporated in Malaysia as a private limited company under the Companies Act, 1965. Uchi Electronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. and Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. commenced operation at its first factory in Gerogetown, Penang, measuring a built-up area of 13,094 square feet.

1990

R&D Division was established with their primary goal to achieve technological breakthrough and exceed customers expectation by research, innovation and developing high grade, market orientated with optimal cost efficient products.

1995

Uchi Electronic Co., Ltd. Taiwan ceased operation.

1996
  • Uchi Electronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. & Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. shifted their manufacturing base to Prai Industrial Estate, Prai, measuring 140,083 square feet with a built-up area of 33,144 square feet.
  • Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. was certified as an ISO 9002 company for conformance to specified requirements during production, installation and servicing,
1997

Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. became an ISO 9001 registered company which includes conformance to specified requirements for design activity.

1998

Uchi Technologies Sdn. Bhd. was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1965, with an issued and paid-up share capital of 2 Ordinary Shares of RM1.00 each.

1999

Uchi Technologies Sdn. Bhd. was converted to a public limited company and assuming its present name, Uchi Technologies Berhad (Uchitec).

2000

Uchitec completed:

  • The acquisition of the entire issued and paid-up share capital of Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. comprising 5,000,000 Shares for a purchase consideration of RM24,011,367 satisfied by the issuance of 19,056,640 new Shares in Uchitec at an issue price of approximately RM1.26 per Share.
  • The acquisition of the entire issued and paid-up share capital of Uchi Electronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. and its subsidiary, Uchi Industries (M) Sdn. Bhd. comprising 3,000,000 Shares for a purchase consideration of RM8,834,146 satisfied by the issuance of 7,011,227 new Shares in Uchitec at an issue price of approximately RM1.26 per Share.
  • A Rights Issue of 7,932,131 new Shares at an issue price of RM1.10 per Share on the basis of approximately three (3) new Shares for every ten (10) existing Shares held based on the share capital of 26,067,869.
  • The issuance of 6,000,000 new Ordinary Shares of RM1.00 each by way of public issue at an issue price of RM4.80 per share.
  • Uchitec’s enlarged issued and paid up share capital of 40,000,000 Shares was listed on the Second Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.

 

Built-up area of Uchi Group’s manufacturing site based in Prai Industrial Estate, Prai were expanded to 126,008 square feet.

2001
  • Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. was awarded ISO 14001 Certification, substantiating its environment-friendly status.
  • Uchitec completed the allotment of 4,000,000 bonus shares of RM1.00 each at par on the basis of 1:10.
  • Uchitec launched Uchi Technologies Berhad Employee Share Option Scheme (“Uchitec ESOS”).
2002
  • Uchitec’s authorised share capital was increased from RM50 million to RM100 million.
  • Uchitec completed allotment of 17,847,600 bonus shares of RM1.00 each at par on the basis of 2:5.
  • Uchitec was transferred to the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.
  • Uchi Technologies (Dongguan) Co., Ltd. was awarded ISO 9001 Certification.
  • Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. was registered as a OHSAS 18001 company in furtherance to her commitments towards the employees in enhancing the overall occupational safety and health environment.
2003

Uchitec completed the allotment of 17,847,600 bonus shares of RM1.00 each at par on the basis of 2:5.

2004

Uchitec completed the subdivision of 72,562,560 ordinary share of RM1.00 each into 362,812,800 new ordinary shares of RM0.20 each on the basis of 5:1.

2005

Uchi Group successfully transformed to lead free production and is ahead in compliance with European Union requirements towards environmental friendly products.

2006
  • Uchitec launched new employee share option scheme in continue recognition of employees’ contribution.
  • Uchi Technologies (Dongguan) Co., Ltd. acquired a vacant industrial land at ShiLong Town, Dongguan City measuring approximately 208,671 square feet for the construction of manufacturing site.
2009
  • Uchi Technologies (Dongguan) Co., Ltd. commenced operation at the new manufacturing site at ShiLong Town, Dongguan City.
2010
  • Uchi Dongguan attained an ISO 14001 certification.
  • Uchi Group’s product complied with the European’s Ecodesign requirements that necessitates the standby and off mode electric power consumption for electrical and electronic household and office equipment be less than 1.0 watt.
2013
  • Uchi Group’s product complied with the European’s Ecodesign requirements that necessitates the standby and off mode electric power consumption for electrical and electronic household and office equipment be less than 0.5 watt.
  • Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. shifted its entire operation to UCHItecture at 3097, Tingkat Perushaan 4A, Free Trade Zone, Prai, Malaysia measuring 139,944 square feet with a built-up area of 148,145 square feet.
2015
  • Uchi Group’s product complied with the European’s Ecodesign requirements that necessitates the shut off electric power consumption for electrical and electronic household and office equipment within 15 minutes after last operation.
  • Uchi Dongguan attained an OHSAS 18001 certification.
2016
  • Uchitec launched new employee share option scheme in continue recognition of employees’ contribution.
  • Uchitec completed the allotment of 39,238,049 new ordinary shares of RM0.20 each in bonus shares on the basis of 1 bonus share for every 10 existing shares held.
  • Uchitec’s authorised share capital was increased from RM100 million to RM160 million.
2017
  • Uchi Dongguan has successfully upgraded from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015.
  • Uchi Dongguan has successfully transit from ISO14001:2004 to ISO14001:2015.
  • Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd.has successfully upgraded from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015.
2018
  • Uchitec completed the Capital Repayment via a reduction of the share capital of the Company involving the cancellation of the share capital of the Company by up to RM89,695,652, and that the credit arising from such share capital reduction has distributed to the shareholders of the Company on the basis of RM0.20 for each UCHITEC Share.
  • Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. successfully transit from ISO14001:2004 to ISO14001:2015.
2020
  • Uchi Dongguan has successfully assessed and certified as ISO45001:2018.
  • Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. successfully migrated from OHSAS 18001 to ISO45001:2018.
2023
  • Uchi Optoelectronic (M) Sdn. Bhd. internal processes were successfully converted to comply with the IATF 16949 standard.
